Join us to hear Benjamin Rosenbaum, in conversation with author Cory Doctorow, discuss his book, The Unraveling.

In the distant future, somewhere in the galaxy, a world has evolved where each person has multiple bodies, cybernetics has abolished privacy, and individual and family success are reliant upon instantaneous evaluations of how well each family member conforms to the rigid social system. Then two new friends of two gendered types unintentionally wind up at the center of a scandalous art spectacle, which turns into a multilayered Unraveling of society, and a test of personal crises having global significance.

Virtual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books: Stories and Ideas 2021 – Online Fiction Event

Join the 26^th Anniversary of the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, again offered virtually, from April 17 through April 20! Many literary events will be offered, and tickets are FREE!

LA Times’ Main Stage Event features Richard Thompson, in conversation with RJ Smith, who will present and discuss his memoir, Beeswing: Losing My Way and Finding My Voice 1967-1975.

Richard Thompson is aninternational and longtime beloved musical legend, known for his brilliant songwriting, his extraordinary guitar playing, and his haunting voice. In this long-awaited memoir the British folk musician takes us back to the 1960s, a period of great change and creativity—both for him and the world at large. Thompson is the author of Beeswing: Losing My Way and Finding My Voice, 1967-1975.

RJ Smith has been a senior editor at Los Angeles Magazine. a contributor to Blender, a columnist for Village Voice, a staff writer for Spin, and a writer for many journals, His book, The One: The Life and Music of James Brown, was among the New York Times’ “One Hundred Notable Books of 2012.” He is the interviewer for this event.

Over the last three decades, the Los Angeles Poetry community has grown into one of the most diverse and active scenes in this city. Before the pandemic, dozens of readings were held weekly and usually at least four or five simultaneously on the same day in different corners of L.A. County. Nonetheless, in a gentrifying city, with the exception of a few long-term spaces like Beyond Baroque, Skylight Books, Stories or the World Stage, the poetry scene is transitory. Many readings only last a few years before the gallery or coffeehouse hosting it goes out of business or the folks who organize the reading find a demanding job that takes them away from poetry. This is where Hiram Sims comes in.

Cover to Cover Reading Club for Kids, from October 5^th – November 13^th – Kids Event

Stop by the Orange Public Library & History Center to sign up for the In-N-Out Cover to Cover Reading Club, which will run until November 13^th. Kids ages 4-12 are eligible to participate. For every five books read, each child will receive a Cover to Cover Achievement certificate redeemable for one hamburger, cheeseburger, or gilled cheese. Earn up to three certificates per child, while supplies last.
