Tommy Davidson & Living Color: What’s Funny About Me at Barnes and Noble, The Grove at Farmers Market
Join us at Barnes and Noble, The Grove to hear actor and stand-up comic Tommy Davidson present and sign his book What’s Funny About Me, a revealing memoir about this 1990 start in the award-winning TV show In Living Color, a pioneering sketch comedy show. It featured a multi-racial cast of actors and dancers who spoke to an underrepresented new generation created by Hip Hop Nation.

Forthcoming From Local Press Los Nietos: “Behind the Red Curtain” by Hồng-Mỹ Basrai

Los Nietos Press is small. Last year they published Long Beach poet Thomas R. Thomas’ latest poetry collection Star Chasing, a poetic memoir about his life growing up in a Southern California tract-house through his adulthood living in the Southland. In 2018, they published San Bernardino native and Long Beach resident liz gonzález’ first full length poetry collection Dancing in the Santa Ana Winds: Poems y Cuentos New and Selected.

Author Mietek Bosduszynski will discuss and sign his book, US Democracy Promotion in the Arab World. Should the US offer more support to the Middle East and Northern Africa to democratize? Join us in a discussion with an expert on the Balkans and the modern Middle East and North Africa, especially Iraq, Libya and Egypt.
The author teaches U.S. Foreign Policy at Pomona College, and was a diplomat with the U.S. Department of State at postings in Albania, Kosovo, Japan, Egypt, Libya and Iraq.

Órale Boyle Heights ep 30: Jenise Miller

Earlier this month, Compton poet Jenise Miller hosted the release party for her debut chapbook The Blvd. (DSTL Arts, 2019) at a packed Patria Coffee. The audience connected with her poems that depicted and celebrated the vibrant Compton community she grew up in. The book centers around the apartment complex she lived in called The Blvd. and depicts in part, her black Panamanian heritage.
