Oti
s Redding Biography at Vroman’s Bookstore
Join us to hear Jonathan Gould discuss and sign Otis Redding: An Unfinished Life, with Tom Vickers. In chronicling the story of Redding’s life and music, as the architect of the gospel-inflected rhythm and blues of Stax Records in Memphis, Gould also presents a social history of the time and place from which they emerged. This is an indelible portrait of the tangled history of race and music in America that resonates with the present day.

by Michael Sedano
From: Labloga.com
Good things come in all sizes and shapes, and in the greater Los Angeles basin, distance. Variety spices life but confounds desire and planning when they–the Good things–all come at once. Given eastside westside all around the town, faced with choices last Sunday, I choose the road less traveled.

REDEFINING LA POETRY: ROBIN COSTE LEWIS AND THE EMERGING POETS
By Mike Sonksen
From: Entropy
Compton-born Dr. Robin Coste Lewis was just appointed the new Los Angeles Poet Laureate. This essay will not only spotlight Lewis and how she is redefining Los Angeles poetry but also several other voices and their books that are working in the same spirit as Lewis to rewrite the narrative of Southern California poetry.

My short-story collection, The King of Lighting Fixtures, will be released by the University of Arizona Press in September.
