Another busy week in the Greater Los Angeles Literary community with two big events: The 2nd Annual Belmont Shore Book Fair in Long Beach, and in celebration of Filipino American Heritage Month, the 10th Annual Katipunan Poetry Slam. In collaboration with Visions and Voices and other campus organizations, USC’s Speakers Committee presents acclaimed Pulitzer Prize winning author, former US Ambassador to the UN and Obama cabinet member, Samantha Power, who will discuss her new memoir, The Education of an Idealist, which chronicles her transition from outside activist to government insider and explores the impact one person can have on the world.

The Laguna College of Art + Design’s (LCAD) Leslie Power Library Presents: Distinguished Authors Lecture Series, with:

Patty Seyburn has previously published five collections of poems, her most recent release being Threshold Delivery (Finishing line Press 2019). She is a proud professor at CSU Long Beach.

Andrew Tonkavich edits the West Coast literary magazine, Santa Monica Review, and hosts Bibliocracy, a weekly books show on listener-supported Pacifica Radio’s KPFK (90.7) in Southern California. He is a regular contributor to the OC Weekly and is co-editor of Orange County: A Literary Field Guide (Hey Day 2017). He teaches composition at UC Irvine.

The stage adaptation of the acclaimed Luis J. Rodriguez memoir and award-winning book, Always Running, is being performed at the CASA 1010 Theatre August 31 – October 20, 2019, so check website links to purchase tickets and select dates from the full schedule. This play/memoir tells the story of a young man who escapes a life of gang violence, discrimination, depression, and drug addiction through art, the Chicano movement poetry and service.

Join us for a discussion with author Aditi Khorana as she presents her latest novel, Library of Fates. Aditi’s international upbringing included stays in India, Denmark, and New England. She has been a journalist for ABC News, CNN, and PBS, and is currently serving as a marketing consultant for the entertainment industry. In her spare time she enjoys the architecture of Los Angeles and the great outdoors.
