Los Angeles Literature Events: 04/29/24 – 05/05/24

This week the Los Angeles literary community is in the thick of literary festival season. There are five literary festivals next weekend: Lit Fest in the Dena in Pasadena, the Festival of AAPI Books in Long Beach, the first annual Heavy Manners Literary Fair at the Heavy Manners Library, Third Edition Viet Book Fest in Santa Ana and week one of the 3rd Pomona Valley Poetry & Book Fest at the L.Á. County Fair. Plus, all the usual literary events. Local writers reading this week include: Viet Thanh Nguyen, Daniel Olivas, Michelle Brittan Rosado, Pete Hsu, Carolyn Huynh and Reem Ali Adeeb, among others. It’s literary festival season in the Los Angeles Literary Community. Next weekend is the annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books Saturday and Sunday, 10am – 6pm Saturday and 10am – 5pm Sunday. Book Club Bonanza: Frightening Reads! & White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson via Central Library, LAPL – Online Teen Event

The Book Club Bonanza Book Club for Teens will host read-alikes and an activity for this month’s selection, White Smoke, by Tiffany D. Jackson.

In this chilling psychological thriller, Marigold is running from ghosts. The phantoms of her old life keep haunting her, but a move with her newly blended family from their small California beach town to the embattled Midwestern city of Cedarville might be the fresh start she needs. Her mom has accepted a new job with the Sterling Foundation that comes with a free house, one that Mari now has to share with her bratty ten-year-old stepsister, Piper.

The renovated picture-perfect home on Maple Street, sitting between dilapidated houses, surrounded by wary neighbors has its…secrets. That’s only half the problem. Cedarville has secrets too.
