Monday Night Fiction Workshop at Beyond Baroque – Zoom Online Event

This free Monday Night Fiction Workshop led by Raquel Baker is a community writing workshop in which participants are asked to bring copies of 2-3 pages of fiction to read, and to use for critique and discussion. Registration is required.

Raquel Baker earned a PhD in English Literary Studies from the University of Iowa and an MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College. She is currently Assistant Professor of Postcolonial Studies and Transnational Literatures at CSU Channel Islands. She has published poetry and nonfiction and done readings with the Ventura Poetry Project.

UCLA Writing Project presents: Launching Writer’s Workshop (Grades Pre-K – 6th), and online event held for five “packed” days, June 22 – June 26.

We’ll immerse ourselves in the nitty-gritty of Writer’s Workshop: helping students generate topics, constructing pointed and powerful mini-lessons, incorporating mentor texts, responding to young writers, and dabbling in publishing and celebration options, too. All will learn the experience being a writer in a workshop classroom. (May be eligible for LAUSD PD hours)

Join us to participate in DSTL Arts’ 10-week creative writing class, Conchas y Café, offered in English and Spanish for adults of all ages.

Participants learn new techniques in poetry, storytelling, and zine-making and also have the opportunity to publish and present their work in a quarterly anthology of writing produced through the program. A public reading and party celebrate the culmination of each series.

‘Cruising’ Maps the Cultural History of L.A.’s Hookup Spots

The bathroom — folded within an interior wall, set off, secluded — was weird, though. Someone had taken the time to punch a raw opening through the metal partition separating two stalls. It was as big in diameter as a Coke can, sometimes lined with wadded toilet paper, and framed with scrawled hieroglyphics (arrows, initials). I dismissed it as crazy, an elaborate work of vandalism, but it nagged at me. While I studied James Joyce and Virginia Woolf and stressed about my senior thesis, the men’s room was undergoing a silent and illogical transformation.
