Jami Attenberg, in conversation with Patricia Lockwood (No One Is Talking About This), will present and discuss her new book, I Came All This Way to Meet You: Writing Myself Home.

King Day 2022 Celebration for Kids, Teens & Families at California African American Museum LA (CAAM) – On-site Event

Welcome back to CAAM to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day In person!

Our schedule for the day includes:

11:00 am -12:00 pm: King Study Group

Participate in this community reading and discussion about King’s1967 speech, “A Christmas Sermon on Peace.”

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm: Family Story Time

Librarians from the LA Public Library read beloved books about King and change including; Be a King: Dr Martin Luther King Jr.’s Dream and You by Carole Boston Weatherfield and Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem by Amanda Gorman, plus lead a fun family activity!

2:00 pm: Musical Performance by ICYOLA

Members of the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (ICYOLA) perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” and a medley of classic spirituals and original compositions.

Drop in to enjoy open galleries and special programs offered throughout the day.

Book Club Bonanza: Indigenous Voices via LAPL Teen Event – Online Event

Join Los Angeles Public Library for a Teen Book Club Bonanza reading and discussion of two indigenous voices and their books:

The Ghost Collector by Allison Mills, is a tale of lives that may be haunted by grieving. Shelley has inherited her family’s ability to catch ghosts in her hair and help them along, both animals and people. But what happens if we can’t have what we want – our loved one to stay?

A Girl Called Echo: Volume 1, by Katherine Vermette, features compelling illustrations and a female main character who is caught in the foster care system. She discovers her Metis heritage first-hand, while slipping back and forth through time.

Moira First Press Reading Series: Jose Hernandez Diaz & Open Micvia Woodbury University/ Microsoft Teams & In-Person – Hybrid Event

Join Woodbury University for the next Moira First Press Reading & Open Mic event, offered both virtually and in-person, to hear featured artist, Jose Hernandez Diaz.

Jose Hernandez Diaz is a 2017 NEA Fellow, and the author of The Fire Eater (Texas Review Press, 2020). His work has been published or featured in The American Poetry Review, Boulevard, Crazyhorse, Georgia Review, Iowa Review, The Kenyon Review, The Los Angeles Times, LitHub, The Nation, Poetry, and in The Best American Nonrequired Reading. He has been a finalist for The Andres Montoya Prize, The Colorado Prize, The Akron Prize, and the National Poetry Series. Currently he is an Associate Editor a Frontier Poetry and a Guest Editor at Palette Poetry. He teaches creative writing online for Litro Magazine, Frontier Poetry, and other venues.

Gina Shock, with Belinda Carlisle & James Duke Mason, & Made in Hollywood: All Access with the Go-Gos via Book Soup – Online Event

Join us to hear Go-Gos drummer Gina Shock, in conversation with Belinda Carlisle & James Duke Mason, present and discuss her book, Made in Hollywood: All Access with the Go-Gos.

The Go-Gos were the first all-female rock band to write their own songs, play their own instruments, and reach the top of the Billboard charts with their #1 album, Beauty and the Beat. Made in Hollywood is drummer Gina Shock’s personal account of the band, which includes a treasure trove of photos and memorabilia collected bver her 40-year career.

Dia De Los Muertos Exhibition: Everything Connected: Land, Body, Cosmos at Self Help Graphics & Art – On-Site Event

Join Self Help Graphics for our Dia De Los Muertos Exhibition, Everything Connected: Land, Body Cosmos, curated by 2921 Commemorative Print Artist, Miyo Stevens-Gandara. This in-person exhibition pairs nine visual artists (music, theory, poetry) to develop a body of work around the idea that everything is connected— nothing in the world exists on its own: our existence, community, environment, health and well-being, cultural practices, and the planet.

Participants can view the artwork in person and experience the audio piece through QR codes, A small self-published catalog will be available. The public may view the exhibition by appointment on Eventbrite, or drop in for guided tours daily at 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm.

Eat, Brains, Love by Jeff Hart is a laugh-out-loud funny, surprisingly romantic, zombie road trip novel filled with heart, and guts.

Locke & Key V. 1 (Issues 1-6) by Joe Hill is an American comic book series, with illustrations by Gabriel Rodriguez.

Dennis Cooper & I Wished via Skylight Bookstore – Online Event

Dennis Cooper will present I Wished, in which the author writes about George Miles, love, loss, addiction, suicide, and how fiction can capture these things, and how it also fails to capture them. .

I Wished is the author’s first novel in ten years, and it revisits the George Miles Cycle of acclaimed novels and the inspiration for the Cycle (Closer, Frisk, Try, Guide, and Period). This is his masterwork, and is his most raw, personal, and haunted book of all.
