A Celebration of Chicano Culture with Dr. José Ángel Gutiérrez at El Camino College – In-Person Event

Dr. José Ángel Gutiérrez, a primary figure of the Chicano Movement and founder of the Raza Unida Party, will speak on identity and activism.

Dr. José Ángel Gutiérrez, the author of numerous books on Chicano culture, including The Eagle Has Eyes: The FBI Surveillance of Cesar E. Chavez of the United Farmworkers Union of America, 1965-1975 (2019), is a primary figure of the Chicano Movement and founder of the Raza Unida Party. He will speak on identity and activism in an afternoon presentation.

Mac Barentt & Marla Frazee Present The Great Zapfino via Once Upon a Time Bookstore – Kids Zoom Event

Two bestselling and popular children’s book creators, author Mac Barnett and illustrator Marla Frazee will present their sweet, inspiring story, The Great Zapfino, for children ages 5 and up, about a runaway circus performer.

When The Great Zapfino climbs to the top of the circus platform, all eyes are on him, waiting for his incredible leap. But Zapfino is afraid of heights! He can’t take the pressure and flees, boards a plane, and runs away to start a new life. 

In the city, Zapfino starts work as an elevator operator in a tall building but soon learns you can never really outrun your fears. When disaster strikes, can Zapfino find the strength to be great?

Yallwest: Santa Monica

This Saturday over 100 middle grade and young adult authors and presenters will converge on Santa Monica High for the 3th annual Yallwest Book Festival. It’ll be a day of panels, book signings, food trucks, bad jokes, rock ‘n’ roll, killer photo ops & general geeky shenanigans. YALLWEST and its sister festival, YALLFEST (held in Charleston, SC), are now the largest teen and middle grade book festivals in the United States.

This is the perfect event for the young book lover in any family.

LitFest Pasadena 2018 and Schedule

LitFest_Long_Logo_TSThe city and Southland’s free books-and-authors festival returns for its 7th year with two days of panels, discussions, readings, workshops, performances, and literary activities. Over 150 authors and special guest speakers will appear in over 50 events from the afternoon into the late evening. LitFest Pasadena is held throughout the historic Pasadena Playhouse District at Vroman’s Bookstore, the Pasadena Playhouse, and other local establishments.
