Chiwan Choi is a poet, writer, publisher and lifelong seer of ghosts. He is the author of four full-length books of poetry: The Flood (Tia Chucha Press, 2010) and the Daughter Trilogy, three books that explore his lost daughter as ghost: Abductions (Writ Large Press, 2012), The Yellow House (CCM, 2017) and the forthcoming my name is wolf (summer 2021).

Sad news to report from the L.Á. literary community. It was announced yesterday that L.Á. lost a stanch supporter of literature and L.Á. writers, Chevalier’s Books manager Elizabeth Clare Newstat. She has passed away.

Civil unity and protests sprung up instantly after George Floyd’s death at the hands of police last month in Minneapolis. The calls for police reform have been loud and wide, including calls for justice for Breonna Taylor who was killed by Louisville police as she slept.

Chiwan Choi is a one of our country’s greatest living poets.
I’m not saying this lightly. His work has an immediacy of a cereal jingle and also the permanence of haunted childhood memories.
Don’t take my word for it. The New York Times recently featured a poem from Choi’s third book, The Yellow House (2017, Civil Coping Mechanisms). His other books include Abductions (2012, Writ Large Press) and The Flood (2010, Tia Chuca Press).
