The stage adaptation of the acclaimed Luis J. Rodriguez memoir and award-winning book, Always Running, is being performed at the CASA 1010 Theatre August 31 – October 20, 2019, so check website links to purchase tickets and select dates from the full schedule. This play/memoir tells the story of a young man who escapes a life of gang violence, discrimination, depression, and drug addiction through art, the Chicano movement poetry and service.

Los Angeles Literature Events 8/26/19 – 9/01/19

Join us to participate in DSTL Arts’ 10-week creative writing class, Conchas y Café, offered in English and Spanish for adults of all ages.

Participants learn new techniques in poetry, storytelling, and zine-making and also have the opportunity to publish and present their work in a quarterly anthology of writing produced through the program. A public reading and party celebrate the culmination of each series.

Please join us as Your Author Series welcomes YA author Robin Benway, as part of our Summer Author Program and Summer Reading challenge. The author will be speaking about her YA novel, Far from the Tree, which received the 2017 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature. Her work has won many awards and her novels have been published in more than twenty countries.

New Open Mic in Pomona

downloadFriday was the second edition of the open mic Poetry y Pan at Café con Libros in Pomona, hosted by poets and educators Irene Sanchez and Matt Sedillo. The Reading began shortly after 7:30 pm, the Arts District coming to life with music and food. Next door it sounded like a band was playing a familiar Green Day song, kicking off the weekend.

The feature Besskepp had yet to arrive and in the back sat a pink box of pan for readers and audience alike. The population inside the two-month-old lending library appeared close to 15. When things kicked off Matt Sedillo made quick introductions, then announced the first open mic reader.
