This is the story of an ordinary girl with no extraordinary abilities, on the contrary, she was quiet and lonely, her outfits were colorful to its maximum that the only thing that would stand out was the misery within the reflection in her eyes; only visible to those brave enough to see through her beyond what the eyes could reach. Distinguished Author Series: Patty Seyburn & Andrew Tonkavich at Laguna College of Art + Design

The Laguna College of Art + Design’s (LCAD) Leslie Power Library Presents: Distinguished Authors Lecture Series, with:

Patty Seyburn has previously published five collections of poems, her most recent release being Threshold Delivery (Finishing line Press 2019). She is a proud professor at CSU Long Beach.

Andrew Tonkavich edits the West Coast literary magazine, Santa Monica Review, and hosts Bibliocracy, a weekly books show on listener-supported Pacifica Radio’s KPFK (90.7) in Southern California. He is a regular contributor to the OC Weekly and is co-editor of Orange County: A Literary Field Guide (Hey Day 2017). He teaches composition at UC Irvine.

Building Literary Community at the Small Press Book Festival

20190927_172515 Last Saturday, the first annual Small Press Book Festival took place at the Wende Museum of the Cold War, in Culver City. It was a day to celebrate, promote and connect with Los Ángeles’ independent publishing community. Founded by Mark Lipman, poet and publisher of local independent press Vagabond, the Festival’s “goal is to promote and foster communication and the diversity of voices through literature and the arts as an integral part of the on-going work of building” literary community and community as a whole.

Luis J. Rodriguez’s Always Running in Theatre Adaptation at Casa 0101

The stage adaptation of the acclaimed Luis J. Rodriguez memoir and award-winning book, Always Running, is being performed at the CASA 1010 Theatre August 31 – October 20, 2019, so check website links to purchase tickets and select dates from the full schedule. This play/memoir tells the story of a young man who escapes a life of gang violence, discrimination, depression, and drug addiction through art, the Chicano movement poetry and service.
