Lambda LitFefst 2019Lambda LitFest Event: Modern Love, Mental Wellness & Healing in LGBTQ Literature at Cal State LA

This event is part of the 2019 Lambda LitFest, and most events will be free, unless otherwise posted, and offered at various venues throughout Southern California during the next week.

Join us today at CSULA to hear Thea Monyee, therapist with Counseling and Psychological Services at CSULA, moderate a discussion with Frederick Smith and Chaz Lamar Cruz, authors of In Case You Forgot, exploring themes of wellness, and healing in LGTBQ literature.

The stage adaptation of the acclaimed Luis J. Rodriguez memoir and award-winning book, Always Running, is being performed at the CASA 1010 Theatre August 31 – October 20, 2019, so check website links to purchase tickets and select dates from the full schedule. This play/memoir tells the story of a young man who escapes a life of gang violence, discrimination, depression, and drug addiction through art, the Chicano movement poetry and service.

Los Angeles Literature Events 8/26/19 – 9/01/19

Join us to participate in DSTL Arts’ 10-week creative writing class, Conchas y Café, offered in English and Spanish for adults of all ages.

Participants learn new techniques in poetry, storytelling, and zine-making and also have the opportunity to publish and present their work in a quarterly anthology of writing produced through the program. A public reading and party celebrate the culmination of each series.

Queer Poetry Night

20190814_195120As a part of the Influx Colletiv’s free monthly queer poetry reading series, their August 22nd event will be held at Rabbit Hole Bar (24 W. Main St., Alhambra, CA 91801) and will feature LA based queer poets: Angie Guerrero, Rocío Carlos, librecht baker, and Ramy El-Etreby. The event begins at 8pm and they will start with an open mic. There will be happy hour during the entire evening.
