Denise Hamilton, Alex Espinosa & Aimee Bender Present Speculative LA Fiction Anthology via Skylight Books – Online Event           

Join editor Denise Hamilton and contributing authors Alex Espinosa & Aimee Bender to hear themdiscuss the new anthology Speculative Los Angeles.

This is the debut title in a new city-based anthology series featuring all-new stories with speculative, sci-fi, and paranormal themes—each using distinct neighborhood settings as a launching pad.

Denise Hamilton is the author of seven crime novels and the editor of the anthologies Los Angeles Noir and Los Angeles Noir 2: The Classics. She is a former Los Angeles Times journalist and a proud LA native, and editor of Speculative Los Angeles.

Alex Espinoza was born in Tijuana, Mexico to parents from the state of Michoacan and raised in suburban Los Angeles. He is the author of two novels and his most recent book, Cruising: An Intimate History of a Radical Pastime. He is the Tomas Rivera Endowed Chair of Creative Writing at UC Riverside.

Aimee Bender is the author of six books, and has received many literary awards. Her work has been translated into sixteen languages, and her short fiction published in numerous journals. She lives in LA with her family and teaches creative writing at USC.

Writers Week to honor three U.S. poet laureates

Rita Dove, Joy Harjo, and Juan Felipe Herrera will each receive lifetime achievement awards during a special event Feb. 19.

The 44th annual Writers Week hosted by UC Riverside begins next week, Feb. 16-19. It's free and open to the public.

Three U.S. poet laureates will close out this year’s Writers Week, California’s longest-running free literary festival, held by UC Riverside for the 44th year. Rita Dove, Joy Harjo, and Juan Felipe Herrera will each be honored with the annual Los Angeles Review of Books (LARB) – UCR Department of Creative Writing Lifetime Achievement Award during a special closing event at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 19.

Behind the Book: Blake Hill-Saya via CalTechLive, Beckman Auditorium– Online Event     

Join author Blake Hill-Saya for a discussion of her biography of her great-great grandfather, Arron McDuffie Moore: An African American Physician, Educator and Founder of Durham’s Black Wall Street, in this new CalTech Behind the Book event. The author will be interviewed by Monique Thomas, Program Coordinator in the CalTech Center for Inclusion & Diversity.

Blake Hill-Saya is a classical musician and creative writer living in Los Angeles. Born the biracial child of two literature professors, she is the CEO of Tenacity Communications in Los Angeles.

This new series presents conversations with authors who explore the intersection of arts, science, and society through the lens of their family histories.
