This week there is no list of weekly events. However, there is still the full slate of literary events from book clubs to workshops, from open mics to readings, from kids events to young adult events and more happening throughout Greater Los Ángeles.

Matriarchy Book Release & Art Show – In-Person Event

Join poet Briana Muñoz in celebrating the release of her new book Matriarchy.

In Matriarchy, Muñoz reminds us that, even in colonized lands, in times of war, despite the forces of violence and oppression, we belong to mother earth, to our own mothers, to the land and rivers, and to one another.

Muñoz will be accompanied by fellow poets Anahí Samaniego, Ignacio Carvajal, Angelina Sáenz, Daniel Gomez, Cherille WIlliams, Jordan Verdin and Mainardo Flores.

Briana Muñoz is a poet from Southern California. She is the author of Loose Lips (Prickly Pear Publishing, 2019) and Everything is Returned to the Soil (FlowerSong Press, 2021). Her work has been published in the anthologies: Somos Xicanas, Reimagine America, and Beat Not Beat, as well as on websites and literary journals: Cultural Daily, The Oakland Arts Review, Dryland Literary Journal, Angel City Review, and several other publications.Briana is the founder of Poetry as Harm Reduction and currently serves as a member on the board of directors for the Los Angeles Poetry Society. She has performed poetry in places like the International Poetry Festival of Havana, Cuba, the 2015 Festival de Poesia in Tijuana, Baja California, MX, as well as at the XXI Congreso Internacional de Literatura y Estudios Hispanicos in Quito, Ecuador.She currently lives in Southern California with her partner and child.

Oral History Interviews and Community Power – In-Person Event

Inlandia Institute and The Center for Social Justice & Civil Liberties Present a night about oral history. Learn how oral history is a tool for bottom-up knowledge, from family history to local organizing, then help them conduct a live oral history! With Jen Laratt-Smith, a community organizer involved with Riverside Neighbors Opposing Warehouses (R-NOW). Also featuring Deborah Wong and Nicolette Rohr.

Beyond Baroque Fundraiser Dinner – In-Person Event

Kicking off their Fall fundraiser season with an intimate dinner gatherning! The evening will be full of food, dfrinks, literature, art, and community. Enjoy a Middle Eastern/Palestinian style cuisine paired with bold and delicate wins, and listen to readings from writers J. Ryan Stradal, Safia Elhillo, and Jessica Abughattas. They will have food-related writing prompts, special giveaways, and will also be announcing their next project, the Beyond Baroque cookbook!

The dinner will take place at a private residence in Venice. Address will be shared with those who purchase a ticket. Limited seating. A purchased ticket does not guarantee a seat.
