46th Annual UCR Writers Week Festival

The 46th Annual UCR Writers Week is back from February 13-17 on the campus of the University of California, Riverside. It’s the longest-running, free literary event in California and features established writers alongside those at the beginning of their careers. Writers Week is completely free to attend and open to the public.

In years past, Writers Week has featured readings and panels with such writers as poet and professor Rachelle Cruz; former UCR professor, novelist and short story writer Dana Jonson; mystery writer and director of the low-residency MFA program at UC Riverside, Palm Desert, Tod Goldberg; former US Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera, poet David Compos; poet, writer and Professor of English at College of the Desert, Ruth Nolan; novelist Karolina Waclawiak; and novelist Jade Chang, among others.

This year Writers Week honors two highly acclaimed writers, Percival Everett and the late Southern Californian historian Mike Davis, along with thirty-one other authors. They range from poet and Cofounder/Executive Director of Women Who Submit, Xochitl-Julisa Bermejo; poet, writer, editor, and organizer Ruben Quesada; novelist and short story writer Vanessa Hua; David Tromblay, a Midwestern Gothic memoirist and novelist; and Ramona Emerson, a Diné novelist and filmmaker originally from Tohatchi, New Mexico.

Each day begins with Session 1 which runs from 1:00–2:15 p.m., followed by Session II which runs from 2:30–3:45 p.m. On both Tuesday and Thursday there is an extra event scheduled after Session II. On Tuesday at 5 p.m. is the presentation of the UCR Creative Writing/Los Angeles Review of Books Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony honoring both Mike Davis and Percival Everett. On Thursday at 4 p.m. is a conversation moderated by Andrew Winer with Juan Felipe Herrera and Tom Lutz.
