It’s 2023 and the Los Ángeles Literary community returns with events at Cafe con Libros Press in Pomona, Casa Verde LA in Whitter and an open mic in Compton, among other events.
Events for the rest of January are poping up en mass as well. Readings, open mics, a book launch, books clubs, workshops. They can be found in a plethora of neighborhoods from Wilshire Vista near Little Ethiopia to Venice to Echo Park to Long Beach to South Central to the City of Orange.
However, last week Los Angeles Literature was enjoying it’s vacation and there will be no list of weekly literary events this week. The list will return next week to kick off 2023. See you then!

Stillness in the Land of Speed West Coast Book Release – In-Person
Award-winning author Violeta Orozco’s West Coast Book Release
and celebration will be hosted at Cafe con Libros Press.
Violeta Orozco is an International Latino Book Award-winning author from Mexico City, earning the Gold medal for the Juan Felipe Herrera Best Book of Poetry written in English for her debut poetry collection, The Broken Woman Diaries (Andante Books 2022). She is also a pushcart prize-nominated poet for her second poetry collection, Stillness in the Land of Speed published by Jacar Press.
She is completing her Ph.D. in Creative Writing, Translation, and Latinx and Romance Literatures at University of Cincinnati.
Reading also features: Angelina Sánez, Jose Hernandez Diaz, Stacy Dyson, Iris De Anda and Luivette Resto.
