Book News: liz Gonzalez

By Brian Dunlap

Poet, teacher and San Bernardino native liz Gonzalez announced last week on Facebook that her nonfiction manuscript The Original OLG: The First Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, was accepted for publication by local independent press, Los Nietos. The manuscript is about the “little known history of,” the first Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in San Bernardino, “and the Mexican immigrant and Mexican American Community in the Mt. Vernon District on the Westside, San Bernardino, in the 1920s.” gonzalez calls her manuscript a “historical personal/family/community essay.”

gonzalez’s aim in writing the manuscript she said, is to get “people, including those who live there, to know that San Bernardino has a rich history to be proud of, and it currently has a lot to offer,” because it’s important local, state and national history.

The Origonal OLG is gonzalez’s second manuscript to be published by Los Nietos, after her poetry collection Dancing in the Santa Ana Winds in 2018.
