Join the 25th Anniversary of the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books: Stories and Ideas, postponed from April 2020, and offered virtually during October and November. A total of 25 literary events will take place from October 18- November 13, and tickets are FREE!
Today’s program features a discussion between Pulitzer Prize winning author Ayad Akhtar and bestselling author Reza Aslan, who will discuss Akhtar’s new book, Hometown Elegies: This novel blends fact and fiction to tell an epicstory of longing and dispossession in the world that 9/11 made. Part family drama, part social essay, at its heart this is the story of a father, a son, and the country they call home.
Ayad Akhtar is a novelist and playwright, whose work has been published and performed in over two dozen languages. He is the winner of numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Junk, and an award in literature form the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Hometown Elegies is his latest novel.
Reza Aslan (Interviewer) is a renowned writer, commentator, and professor, Emmy-nominated producer, and scholar of religions. He is the author of three bestselling books, including, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth.

Virtual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books: Stories and Ideas 2020 – Online Crime Fiction Event
Join the 25th Anniversary of the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books: Stories and Ideas, postponed from April 2020, and offered virtually during October and November. A total of 25 literary events will take place from October 18- November 13, and tickets are FREE!
Today’s program is Crime Fiction: The Dark Side, and it features a discussion between authors Attica Locke, Ivy Pocholda, Rachel Howell Hall, and moderator and LA Times reporter James Queally.
Panelists will discuss their latest releases that center on real world issues: fighting social norms, injustice and racial tension in our society, and female empowerment, all against a backdrop of riveting storytelling.
Attica Locke is the author of the Highway 99 series, and her latest book is Heaven, My Home.
Ivy Pochoda is the author of The Art of Disappearing, Visitation Street, and Wonder Valley, a Los Angeles Times Book Prize finalist.
Rachel Howzell Hall is the author of the Lou Norton series, the stand-alone thriller They All Fall Down, and co-author of The Good Sister with James Patterson. She is the senior development officer for Donor Relations Department at Cedars Sinai, and is a mentor in the AWP Writer-to-Writer Program.

Fei Hernandez is an Inglewood-raised immigrant trens non-binary visual artist, writer, and healer, an Advisory Board Member of Gender Justice Los Angeles, and co-founder of ING Fellowship which provides mentorship for Inglewood youth.
Cybele Garcia Kohel is a writer living and writing in Pasadena, but born in Puerto Rico. She writes poetry, short stories, and essays, in a loud voice from the margins. Her recent publications are in the Women Who Submit anthology, Accolades (2020), and the Altadena Literary Review (2020).
