Vromans Local Author Day via Vroman’s Bookstore – Crowdcast Online Event

Authors Laura Moss White, Sanja Kulenovic & Jadurani will read and discus their new books:

Mrs. White’s SUB SNIPS, by Laura Moss White, is a book of humorous substitute teaching real life experiences in grades K-12.

The Siege of Sarajevo, by Sanja Kulenovic, is set in 1992, when Bosnian honeymooners in Southern California are suddenly stranded and homeless when their native Yugoslavia erupts into civil war. Their family letters vividly capture the four years of suffering the Sarajevans endured, the human toll of war, and the resilience and determination of immigrants.

The Art of Spiritual Life, by Jadurni, is a poetic title, not a literal one, but a double entendre. This memoir is a personal journey of a fine artist, whose saints gave her the subject of her art and her life.

Brian Castleberry & Nine Shiny Objects at Book Soup – Crowdcast Online Event

Join Brian Castleberry to discuss his debut novel, Nine Shiny Objects.

On June 26, 1947, headlines across America report the sighting of nine pulsating lights flying over the Cascade Mountains at speed surpassing any aircraft. By chance, two different men, one from Chicago and one from Idaho, set in motion the birth of “the Seekers”– a collective of outcasts and others who seek to create a society free from the divisions of the past—of race, ethnicity and sexuality. But a stranger emerges and a crime ensues, which reveals a shocking truth about the clash of the optimism of some and the venom of others, including the virtual unearthing of the dead.

Vroman’s Live: Stephanie Scott, with Lisa See, & What’s Left of Me Is Yours – Crowdcast Online Event

Author Stephanie Scott, in discussion with acclaimed author Lisa See, will discuss her new book, What’s Left of Me Is Yours, in a Crowdcast online event.

In Japan, a covert industry has grown up around the “wakaresaseya” (literally “breaker-upper”), a person hired by one spouse to seduce the other in order to gain the advantage in divorce proceedings. In this story the situation is told from alternating points of view and across breathtaking landscapes of Japan. The author exquisitely renders the affair and its intricate repercussions, and probes the thorny psychological and moral grounds of the actions we take in the name of love, and where we draw the line between passion and possession.

Hector Tobar & The Last Great Road Bum – Chevalier’s Books – Online Event

Author Hector Tobar, in conversation with Roberto Lovato, will read and discuss his new book, The Last Great Road Bum.

This is a peripatetic true story of a native son of Urbana, Illinois, who died fighting with guerrillas in El Salvador, and the author turns it into the great American novel for our times.

Joe Sanderson died in pursuit of a life worth writing about. He referred to himself as a “road bum,” an adventurer and a storyteller, belonging to no place, people or ideas. He was born into a childhood of middle class contentment in Illinois, and died fighting with guerrillas in Central America. A decade ago, Tobar came into possession of the personal writings of Sanderson, which chart his freewheeling course across the world, and ending in anonymous heroism. This is the story Sanderson never could have written, but did truly live—a hybrid of fiction and non-fiction.
