Yuri Herrera, with John Gibler, & A Silent Fury at Skylight Books Zoom Online

Author Yuri Herrera, in conversation with author John Gibler (Torn from the World), will discuss his new nonfiction book, A Silent Fury, and this discussion also will be recorded and released on the Skylight Books Podcast.

On March 10, 1920, in Pachuca, Mexico, The Compania de Santa Gertrudis—the largest employer in the region—and a subsidiary of the United States Smelting,, Refining and Mining Company—may have committed murder. When fire broke out, the mine was sealed, and the company then asserted no more than ten men were left inside, and they were most probably dead. Later, when the mine was re-opened, the death toll was actually 87, and there were seven survivors.

A century later, acclaimed novelist Yuri Herrera has reconstructed this tragedy, set in his home town. His work is an act of restitution, and brings out the injustices that suffocated this horrific event into silence.
