Our weekly Conchas y Café Zine – Bilingual Community Writing Workshops are free and open to adults. This program offered by DSTL Arts, provides a 12-week creative writing workshop for adults of all ages. Participants learn more about creative writing, poetry, publishing, zine-making, and more, while receiving writing exercises and feedback on their work. Participants also have the opportunity to publish and present their work in a zine of writing produced through the program. A public reading and release party celebrates the culmination of each 12-week series.

Join us for author Andrew Rader’s Book Talk for his book, Beyond the Known: How Exploration Created the Modern World.. This is a history/science crossover book examining how exploration has driven technological progress from the beginning of humanity and will continue to do so into the future. Divided into four sections, this book examines major periods of discovery, from Classical Times, to the Age of European Exploration, to the Era of Scientific Inquiry, to Our Spacefaring Future. The author is Mission Manager of Space X and has written three books.

Conversations at the Culver Center of the Arts with Eric Schwitzgebel
Join the Inlandia Institute in welcoming author and educator Eric Schwitzgebel to discuss his book, A Theory of Jerks and Other Philosophical Misadventures. In this funny and accessible book the author wonders about the essence of “jerkitude,” and turns a philosopher’s eye n burning questions such as where moral reflection begins to turn against itself, lost among doubts and improbable conclusions.
Eric Schwitzgebel is Professor of philosophy at UC Riverside. He has published widely on self-knowledge, the nature of belief, moral psychology, the nature of consciousness, and science fiction.

Book Talk: Arthur and Lily at Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust
Lilly Maier. author of Arthur and Lilly, will present and tell the story of Arthur Kern, who was born in Vienna, and put on a Kindertransport at age ten. Arthur was eventually able to escape to America via France, but he never saw his family again. Sixty years later, as a retired rocket engineer who resided in Los Angeles, Arthur went back to visit his childhood apartment in Vienna and became acquainted with Lilly Maier. Lilly was only eleven at the time, but the two continued to shape each other’s lives from the moment of that meeting..
The original book is published in German. Lilly Maier is currently working on an English version, and her talk will be in German.
