Chip Jacobs & Arroyo: A Novel: at Vroman’s Bookstore

Author Chip Jacobs, in conversation with former Mayor of Pasadena Bill Bogaard, will discuss and sign Arroyo: A Novel. (The Pie & Burger truck will serve those who purchase a book at this event!)

In both lives they are drawn to the landmark Colorado Street Bridge, or “Suicide Bridge,” which suffers a lethal collapse during construction but is still opened to fanfare in the early twentieth century automobile age. When the refurbished structure commemorates its 80th birthday, the town is virtually unrecognizable from its romanticized, and somewhat invented, past.

Lucy Ives & Loudermilk at Skylight Bookstore

Author Lucy Ives, in conversation with Magdalena Edwards & Michael Scott Moore, will present and sign her new novel memoir, Loudermilk: Or, the Real Poet: Or, the Origin of the World.

This is a tale of two idiots—the handsome, charismatic Troy Augustus Loudermilk and his unassuming, socially anxious friend Harry Rego—who, in the early days of the new millennium, scam their way into a fellowship at the most prestigious creative writing program in the country.

Wickedly entertaining, beguiling, layered, and sly, this is a social novel for out time: a comedy of errors that deftly examines class, gender, and inheritance, and subverts our pieties about literature, authorship, art making, and the institutions that sustain them.
