Join author Annalee Newitz when she presents and signs her novel, The Future of Another Timeline, in conversation with Sean Carroll.
In a modern-day United States, just a step away from our own, time travel is possible—in fact, it has existed as long as humanity itself has existed. Since jumping into the past is simple, scientists say altering the timeline is almost impossible. But someone has figured out how to try to use time travel to un-do an injustice in the past. Yet no one knows if they can build a different future.

Lambda LitFest Event: Writing to Yourself: Intuition and Conversation in Poetics at WCCW
This event is part of the 2019 Lambda LitFest, and most events will be free, unless otherwise posted, and offered at various venues throughout Southern California during the next week.
Queer writers have been writing with their instincts to emote and recreate/react to memories, and have been working through cognitive poetics to understand choices and regrets. There may never be a solution or healing, but there should be artistic and personal engagement with issues in the form of writing—the ability to keep moving forward through deep reflection, keen chronicling, and self-inquiry. This deep reflection and cognitive writing is an extension and digression form Lorca’s deep song, Rothenberg’s deep image, and David Antin’s Talk Poetry, but puts us closer to the truth and myth of Robert Duncan and HD in very personal and political ways.
Performers include: Jacq Greyja, Isobel O’Hare, Annalyse Gelman.
NOTE: See website link for complete schedule, free tickets, and further details.

Bestselling and award-winning author Jacqueline Woodson, in conversation with Kara Brown, will present and sign his newest novel, Red at the Bone.
In an extraordinary new novel about the influence of history on a contemporary family, two families from different classes are joined together by an unexpected pregnancy and the child it produces. Moving forward and backward in time, with the power of poetry and the richness of a narrative ten times its length, author uncovers the role that history and community have played in the experiences, decisions, and relationships of these families, and in the life of this child.
This book opens in 2001, when Melody is sixteen years old, and it unfurls the history of her parents and grandparents to show how they all arrived at this moment. It explores many issues through the lens of young people making life-lasting decisions before they have yet figured out who and what they are.
