This book tells the story of how Collis and Henry Huntington built their railroading empire into Southern California between the 1870s and the Great Merger of 1911. It is a capitalist’s history, and includes the railroad companies and individuals who tried to stop the Huntington’s progress to forward their own plans and schemes. The birth of the Pacific Electric Railway grew into the most successful electric railway in the world; with 1.100 miles of track in four counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino. The book is enhanced with photos, news clippings, and maps to tell the story the best way possible.

Francesca Bell’s poems and translations appear in many journals, and she is the former poetry editor of River Styx, the translator of a collection of poems by Palestinian poet Shatha Abu Hnaish (Dar Fadaat, 2017), and the author of the collection Bright Stain (Red Hen Press, 2019).
Ilya Kaminsky was born in Odessa, former Soviet Union, and arrived in the U.S. when his family was granted asylum in 1993. He is the author of Dancing in Odessa (Tupelo Press) which won the Whiting Writers Award, among several other awards. Poems from his new manuscript, Deaf Republic, received Poetry Magazine’s Levinson Prize, and the Pushcart Prize.

Ravina Wadhwani is a Long Beach based poet, write, and mental health therapist. She was born in the Virgin Islands to a family of Indian immigrants, which is part of her identity and world view.
Jenise Miller is an urban planner, inaugural DSTL Arts Artist- in-Residence in Compton. She was a 2018 Voices of Our Nations Arts (VONA) workshop fellow in poetry, and is working on her first chapbook, The Blvd.
Megan Dorame is of Tongva descent, and lives in Santa Ana. She is active in the revitalization of the Tongva language, and her work has appeared in The Ear, Dryland, and The Offing.
