Narratives of the Southwest – L.A. Times Bomb at Beyond Baroque
Narratives of the Southwest is a four-part series that examines U.S. history as a whole from the perspective of the Southwest. L.A. Times Bomb and is the second in the series and tells the story of the bombing of the Los Angeles Times building in 1910 as well as the story of Ricardo Flores Magon. It functions as both local history and L.A. s place in world history through Magon’s involvement in the Mexican Revolution. This narrative will be intersected with “Working LA,” a curated poetry reading of contemporary poets writing about their experiences as workers in the city of Los Angeles.

Join us for a literary luncheon with author Tembi Locke to discuss her book, From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home.
It was love at first sight wen Tembi met profession chef Saro on a street in Florence. The only problem was traditional Sicilian family did not approve of hem marrying a black American woman, and an actress no less. However, they forged ahead, adopted a baby girl, and reconciled with his family. However Saro would face a three year long battle with cancer, with Tembi by his side, and this book covers their three years in his hometown hamlet of farmers.
If it is said every story begins with a marriage or a death, then this one is both.
