Alexis Rhone Fancher, is the author of: How I Lost My Virginity to Michael Cohen, State of Grace: The Joshua Elegies, Enter Here and Junkie Wife. Her photographs are published worldwide, and she is a multiple Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net nominee. She is also poetry editor of Cultural Weekly.
Ron Koertge taught English and Creative Writing at Pasadena City College for 37 years. He has published more than 25 books of poetry and fiction, most recently: Vampire Planet, Yellow Moving Van, and Coaltown Jesus. He is also 2018 Poet Laureate of South Pasadena, California.
Lee Rossi is the author of four books of poetry: Darwin’s Garden, Wheelchair Samurai, Ghost Diary, and Beyond Rescue.

Join us to hear award-winning authors Viet Thanh Nguyen and David Mura discuss how writers of color are changing the landscape of American literature and challenging the ways the craft of creative writing has been taught.
Viet Thanh Nguyen is a Vietnamese American novelist and writer, and the author of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Sympathizer, and the author of the nonfiction books Nothing Ever Dies and Race and Resistance, as well as the story collection The Refugees. He is Aerol Arnold Chair of English and Professor of English and American Studies and Ethnicity at the University of Southern California.
David Mura is a poet, creative nonfiction writer, critic, playwright and performance artist. A Sansei or third generation Japanese American, Mura has written two memoirs: Turning Japanese: Memoirs of a Sansei (Anchor-Random), which won a 1991 Josephine Miles Book Award from the Oakland PEN, and Where the Body Meets Memory: An Odyssey of Race, Sexuality and Identity (1996, Anchor). He teaches at Hamline University, VONA (Voices of the Nation Association), and the Stonecoast MFA program.

Join us for the 32nd Annual Sojourner Truth lecture, by Saidiya Hartman, author of Scenes of Subjugation: Terror, Slavery, and Self-Making in Nineteenth Century America (Oxford, 1997), and Lose Your Mother: A Journey Along the Atlantic Slave Route (Farrar, Strauss,& Giroux, 2007).
A professor in English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, author Saidiya Hartman has published articles on slavery, the archive, and the city, and is completing Wayward Lives, Beautiful Experiments (forthcoming, Norton), which examines the social upheaval and radical transformation of everyday life that took place in the emergent black ghetto in the early decades of the 20th century.
