In Creating Art in Times of Strife, Rudolph presents a series of one-on-one conversations with socially conscious artist across disciplines, informing how current political polarization and environmental crisis affect and inform each artist’s process and practice.
Christine Yoo’s forthcoming documentary, 26.2 to Life, chronicles a year in the life of San Quentin’s 1000 Mile Club, a prison running group training for an annual marathon inside the prison’s crowded lower yard: 105 laps to complete 26.2 miles. Wally and Christine discuss how the making of the film has affected her view of the prison industrial complex and the human cost of our justice system

This talk examines the public figure of the female “prostitute” as an agent in driving photographic practices in late nineteenth-century Iran, in particular her role in participating in and shaping a visual modernity that was in flux at the time.

T.K. Le is a VONA Voices summer writing workshop alum, and her essay “Part of Memory is Forgetting” appears in the anthology Inheriting the War. Her current collection of poems is inspired by the Lambretta her father threw into the ocean in the hours before he left Vietnam in 1975.

Dennis Cruz has been writing and performing his poetry for over 20 years. He is the author of No One: Poems 2009 and Moth Wing Tea. His new collection, The Beast Is We, is out now on Punk Hostage Press.
Alex Espinoza is the author of Still Water Saints and The Five Acts of Diego Leon. He has written for numerous journals and periodicals, and his latest book, Cruising: An Intimate History of a Radical Pastime, is forthcoming in June 2019 from Unnamed Press.
Anita Gill is the winner of the 2018 Iowa Review Award in non-fiction, and her humor and essays have been published widely. She now resides in L.A. and is at work on a memoir.
Natalie Graham is a Cave Canem fellow and associate professor of African America Studies at CSU Fullerton. Begin with a Failed Body is her first full-length collection of poems, and it won the 2016 Cave Canem Poetry Prize.
Lauren Marks spent a decade in professional theatre and was an Emerging Voices Fellow for PEN America. She is an active advocate for those who live with language disorders like aphasia, and has recently been published in the Chicago Tribune and Nautilus Magazine. A Stitch of Time is her first book.
Sarah Stone’s new novel, Hungry Ghost Theatre, appeared in the Millions Most Anticipated list for October and LitHub‘s 21 Books You Should Read This October. Her previous novel was The True Sources of the Nile. She is co-author with her spouse Ron Nyren of Deepening Fiction: A Practical Guide for Intermediate and Advanced Writers. Her short stories have been widely published
