Nathaniel Philbrick & In the Hurricane’s Eye at Vroman’s Bookstore
Please join us to hear Nathaniel Philbrick discuss and sign In the Hurricane’s Eye: The Genius of George Washington and the Victory of Yorktown.
In the fall of 1780, after five frustrating years of war, Washington had come to realize that the only way to defeat the British Empire was with the help of the French navy. But coordinating his army’s movements with those of a fleet of warships based thousands of miles away was next to impossible. Then, on September 5, 1781, the impossible happened, when the Battle of the Chesapeake—fought without a single American shop—made the subsequent victory of the Americans at Yorktown a virtual inevitability. In the end, the fate of the Revolution depended on Washington and the sea.

The annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany has been seen as one of history’s most foreboding moments, opening the gateway to one of the greatest humanitarian horrors in our history.
