Riley Perez & What Is Real at Diesel Bookstore

This book explores the nine years he spent in custody, his life sharing facilities with Charles Manson and gang leaders, and where he confronts the question of which version he sees of himself is real: the young kid known to his friends and family, or the man who pleaded guilty to robbery and attempted extortion. This memoir takes a cold, hard look at a life of crime, the toll it takes, the reality of life inside California’s prisons, and the price paid by all involved.

Stories of Boundaries at Arts Council for Long Beach
Join us for Stories of Boundaries, a culminating exhibition for Art Council of Long Beach’s 2017-2918 Professional Artist Fellows, featuring four artists whose work exemplifies artistic merit and professional achievement:
Kristin Beeler creates contemporary jewelry, photography and objects, and explores memory and the marks and traces left behind.
Jose Loza explores stories of migration and the boundaries between borders, language, generations, and cultures, and includes family narratives, interviews, and oral histories.
BrittanyMojo investigates histories of gendered work through the manipulation of material, and the real or imagined hierarchy between them.
Gerardo Monterrubio uses the ceramic medium as an anthropological investigation, using forms as vehicles to compose linear and fragmented narratives.
