Located between commercial art galleries and tawdry Chinatown gift shops, the Poetic Research Bureau fosters a living room type atmosphere where poets and other wordsmiths share their words. This Chinatown literary space hosts a plethora of poetry reading year round. A place where L.A. poets, writers and others go to read.

Before the Poetic Research Bureau landed in its space on Chung King Road in Chinatown in 2010, a space it shares with the Public School of L.A., it has been a magazine, a publishing collective and a reading series that has hopped around L.A. It was located in a downtown art gallery, a Larchmont bookstore and even a Stalinist community theater in Glendale.

On Poetic Research Bureau’s Facebook page they say they, “seeks to provide forums for independent and extradisciplinary research, expand the definition and scope of literature, and promote the creative commons and public domain through nonprofit publishing, presentational and pedagogical activities.”

The Poetic Research Bureau has been around in some form since 1999. And it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere anytime soon.
