Ben Eze Amushie at Anansi Writers Workshop, The World Stage
Please join the Anansi Writers Workshop to welcome our feature, Ben Eze Amushie, who came from a small village in Nigeria and was very young when the Biafran War broke out, and later moved to Rome for his education. His first book of poems, Songs from the Black Queen, in 1994, was followed by a collection of Igbo folk tales, Turtle King of Animals, in 1995, and The Thinking Head in 1996. He then moved to the U.S., settled in L.A., and was active at the World Stage until he moved in 2000, first to Michigan and then to Texas in 2004. There he worked on films and on his novel, Orie the Badger.

Rattle Poetry Series at Flintridge Bookstore

Emily Sernaker is a writer and human rights professional living in Brooklyn, New York, and her work has appeared in many publications. Her poem “I Have Confidence” appeared in Rattle #55, and two poems have appeared in Rattle’s Poets Respond series.
Stephen Taylor teaches writing and mythology at Glendale College. His first story collection, Cut Men, was published in 2005, and a new collection is forthcoming. His “Prenuptial Agreement” appears in Rattle #60.
Alexandra Umlas lives in Huntington Beach and is an MFA student at CSULB. Her poem “Touring the B-17 Bomber at the Palm Springs Air Museum” appeared in Rattles Poets Respond series last fall.

Penelope Lowder is a playwright, actress, screenwriter and novelist. She is the author of a collection of short stories inspired by her father, Three Seconds of Hell (World Stage Press 2017).
Dr. Jason Magabo Perez is the author of two hybrid collections of poetry and prose, a chapbook, and a full-length debut book, This is for the mostless (2017).
Vandanna Khanna is the author of two full-length collections, Train to Agra and Afternoon Masala, as well as the chapbook, The Goddess Monologues. She has taught English and Creative Writing at colleges and universities across the country.
Jason McCall is the author of: Silver; I Can Explain; Dear Hero; Mother,Less Child; and Two-Faced God. He is also co-editor of the anthology It Was Written: Poetry Inspired by Hip Hop. He currently teaches at the University of North Alabama.
