Dr. Lora Geriguis will discuss “Recovering One Woman’s Voice within Scientific History” through the life of Margaret Cavendish, a 17th century aristocrat, philosopher, writer, scientist and playwright, who spurred scientific methodology in 17th century England.

Hampton Sides Lecture & Reading at CalTech
Please join the James Michelin Distinguished Visitors Program to welcome author and journalist Hampton Sides, who will present his book, In the Kingdom of Ice, and discuss the America in the Gilded Age as it flexed its muscles on the world stage in his talk on America in the Age of Polar Fever, a look at the voyage of the USS Jeannette (1879-81). Independence Day Launch at Poetic Research Bureau
Please join us to hear poets Kim Calder, Greg Curtis, and Evan Kleekamp read and discuss their work, in celebration of the publication of Independence Day, with Greg Curtis’s still photographs of extras from late 90s and early 2000s disaster films, witnessing their own deaths alongside a long poem drawn from the corresponding screenplays by Kim Calder and an essay on photography by Ariel Evans.
Kim Calder is co-director of Les Figues Press. She is currently working on two manuscripts: The Nervous System, an autotheoretical work, and her dissertation, which examines the centrality of indigeneity and indigenous cosmologies across contemporary American literatures of resistance.
Greg Curtis’ works in photography, video and installation have been widely exhibited, and he organized exhibitions at Ms Barbers and Elephant.

Giovanna Ortega is an actor, author and director, and is currently Assistant Professor in Theatre and Dance at Pomona College. His Ang Gitano/The Gypsy is a multilingual collection of prose and poetry of self-discovery and diasporic displacement.
Jason Magabo Perez is an assistant Professor of English/Creative Writing at CSU San Bernardino, and author of the chapbook, Phenomenology of Superhero (2016), among other works.
Vics Magasay first studied chemical and civil engineering, but found his passion in the arts. He is a nature photographer, painter, sculptor, designer, writer and poet.
Felix Fojas has won numerous advertising and literary awards and is a member of PEN International as well as the Philippine Literary Arts Council. He has lectured at UC Davis, Sacramento State And Sacramento City College.
James Preston Allen is the publisher of Random Lengths News, and owner of GT Designs, and is an accomplished graphic designer. He has exhibited his fine art throughout California and Japan, released two audios and composed over 100 songs, published two books, and penned over 450 editorials and articles.
