Melissa Mack is a poet in Oakland, California, whose life iss structured by a day job, multiple study groups, showing up at protests, reading tarot, and going on walks with friends. her work has appeared in journals, anthologies, a chapbook, Includes All Strangers, Poet’s Theatre, and at many public meetings.
Elizabeth Houston is an international poet and Cave Canem Fellow, and teaches literature to women incarcerated at MCI-Framingham. Her poems include: school, I Am, Tomorrow, Figure, Fishy, and Learn.

Not My President Anthology at Beyond Baroque
In 2017, in Fallbrook, CA, the public library system banned the anthology Not My President form an ongoing author series held at the local library. The ACLU intervened and the reading was finally held in January, 2018. NMP authors, local poets and performers will read from this book, followed by a short open reading. Proceeds will be split between Beyond Baroque and the ACLU. Refreshments will be served.

Tongva Language Workshop at the Main Museum

Kids Event at the Hammer/Felipe de Neve Library–Kids Event
The Hammer presents Art without Walls: Sounds of Freedom, an off-site event at Felipe de Neve Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL). What would a memory look like if you re-created it through sound? Teaching artist Ismael de Anda leads a workshop for kids of all ages, from age 7 and up, which emphasizes empathy and listening skills as kids create soundscapes base on a time when their grown-up felt free.
