“It’s official…” Los Angeles poet and Cave Canem fellow F. Douglas Brown said today, “Writ Large Press will publish ICON, poems centered around my namesake, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and the Harlem Renaissance painter Jacob Lawrence.”

F. Douglas Brown is also the author of Zero to Three (University of Georgia 2014), the 2013 Cave Canem Poetry Prize recipient selected by Tracy K. Smith. He also co-authored with poet Geffrey Davis, Begotten (Upper Rubber Boot Books 2016), a chapbook of poetry as part of Upper Rubber Boot Book’s Floodgate Poetry Series. Zero to Three is a series of poems focused on familial roles and situations that are difficult to articulate, even among family members. These poems mark both the change in the child and in the father, who is also a son himself. Begotten is also about fatherhood and what it’s like being a child written as a conversation between Brown and fellow poet Geoffrey Brown.
