Statement Magazine 2017 Launch Reception at Cal State LA

Soleil David was born and raised in the Philippines and now lives in L.A. She graduated with high distinction from UC Berkeley and is a recipient of the Julia Keith Shrout Short Story Prize. She has been published in both American and Asian publications, and is working on a collection of poems.
Peter H.Z. Hsu was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and raised in San Gabriel Valley. He received a BA in English literature from UCLA, and a Master’s in Psychology from Cal State LA. His fiction debuted in March 2016 in The Margins and is included in the Fall issue of Pinball. He is currently working on a short story collection.
Kirin Khan was raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico and currently lives in Oakland, California. A senior analyst for YouGov, she has a BA in Economics from Mills College and a post-baccalaureate in math from Smith College. She is a VONA Voices alum and an upcoming 2017 Grotto Fellow, and is now working on her first novel.
Chinyere Nwodim was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and attended Johns Hopkins University where she received a BS degree in Biology. She works in development at a regional community health center that serves Los Angeles and Orange Counties. She is working on a short story collection.
Jessica Shoemaker was raised in Torrance, California, and earned A BA in cultural anthropology from UCSB. She now lives in San Pedro and teaches middle school. Her fiction has been published, and she is working on a collection of short stories.

Come join the OC Multi Racial Collective when Armine Iknadassian, Robbie Nestor, James Evert Jones, Tamara Madison, and Elmast Kozloyan will feature and present their poems of resistance.
Armine Iknadassian is the author of The United States of Love & Other Poems (2016). Since 2013 she has been a Writing Consultant for CSULA. In Spring of 2017 she was chosen as a Writer in the Schools for Red Hen Press.
Elmast Kozloyan released her debut chapbook Doe Eyed Venus, and hosts Inside the Lantern poetry reading.
Tamara Madison is the author of The Belly Remembers and Wild Domestic, and her latest collection is forthcoming form Pearl Editions.
James Evert Jones is currently Director of the Expressions Literary Arts Program.
