, in conversation with author Steve Hely, read from and discuss her delightfully refreshing coming-of-age story, The Idiot. Batuman is also the author of The Possessed: Adventures with Russian Books and the People Who Read Them, and this debut novel begins in 1995, when email is new and Selin, the daughter of Turkish immigrants, arrives for her freshman year at Harvard. The author discusses this off-kilter journey into adulthood and her recent reporting from Turkey with Steve Hely, comedic author, TV writer and co-host of the podcast The Great Debates.

Angle of Reflection Poetry Anthology at Chevalier’s
Join us to hear seven prize winning L.A. poets read and discuss their uniquely cross-pollinated collection Angle of Reflection.
Jeanette Clough’s collection Flourish was a finalist in the Otis College and Eastern Washington University annual book competitions. Clough also served as Artist in Residence fo the National parks. Recent work appears in Colorado Review and Laurel Review.
Sarah Maclay’s newest release is the The She Series: A Venice Correspondence, a collaboration with Holaday Mason. Awards include a Pushcart Special Mention, the Tampa Review Prize for Poetry, and a Yaddo residency.
Holaday Mason is the author of Towards the Forest, Dissolve, The Red Bowl: A Fable in Poems, and The She Series: A Venice Correspondence, a collaboration with Sarah Maclay. Pushcart nominee, and widely published, Holaday ia a psychotherapist since 1993, and a fine art photographer.
Jim Natal is the Pushcart Prize-nominated author of 52 Views: The Haibun Variations, Memory and Rain, and two previous poetry collections. His work has appeared in many journals and anthologies.
Jan Wesley’s credits include a poetry book, Living in Freefall, three published chapbooks, and others. She received Pushcart and Ruth Lily award nominations, and now teaches writing workshops.
Brenda Yates is the award winning author of Bodily Knowledge. She has been published in many journals.

Three Valley Poets at The dA Center for the arts

Tamara Madison, is a Long Beach poet who grew up on a citrus farm in the Coachella Valley. She teaches French and English in a high school in Los Angeles, and her work has appeared in numerous small press journals and anthologies. She is the author of the collection Wild Domestic, and the chapbook The Belly Remembers.
Genevieve Kaplan is the author of In the ice house (2011), and her poems have appeared in jubliat, Fence, Gulf Coast, and elsewhere. She is pursuing a PhD in Literature and Creative Writing in Southern California.
Lynne Thompson is the author of three poetry chapbooks and two full-length collections, Start with a Small Guitar and Beg No Pardon, and her work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. She won the 2008 Great Lake Colleges New Writers Award, and received a fellowship from the City of Los Angeles in 2015. She is Reviews and Essays Editor for the literary journal Spillway.

Anahita Jamali Rad was born in Iran and is currently living on unceded Coast Salish territories. Her work engages with materiality, love, class, violence, and displacement. She co-edited the critical materialist feminist journal About a Bicycle.

Join us for a reading, discussion and book signing with Ronald C. White, author of American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant, a finely honed, three-dimensional portrait of Grant the man—husband, father, leader, writer—that should set the standard for future biographies.
White is a Fellow at the Huntington Library and a Senior Fellow of the Trinity Forum of Washington D.C. He lives with his wife in La Canada, California.
