Armine Iknadossian fled Beirut Lebanon for Pasadena in 1978, and during her 20 year teaching career she served as recitation coach for Poetry Out Loud. She earned her MFA in Poetry from Antioch University, is a bookstore manager at Beyond Baroque, and will serve as a Writer in the Schools this fall.
Sonia Greenfield’s poems, essays and fiction have appeared in numerous journals. She co-directs the Southern California Poetry Festival and edits Rise Up Review.

Angel City Review #4 Reading at Poetic Research Bureau
In celebration of the release of Issue#4 of Angel City Review we will be having a series of readings, the first of which will be December 3rd at Poetic Research Bureau. Featured artists include:
Will Alexander is a poet, aphorist, playwright, essayist, philosopher, visual artist, pianist and Los Angeles native. He is the author of nearly thirty books and the recipient of the prestigious Jackson Prize for Poetry, among the most substantial given to an American poet.
Jian Huang’s parents brought her to the U.S. from China at age six, where she grew up in South L.A. and earned her degree in Art History from USC. Her work has appeared in Entropy, LARB, ALOUD, among others, and she received a PEN Emerging Voices fellowship in 2016.
Sesshu Foster’s work has appeared in many journals and venues, most recently in a Smithsonian exhibit. His most recent books are Atomik Aztek and World Ball Notebook, which won the American Book Award. He has taught writing at Southern California high schools and colleges for thirty years.
Rocio Carlos is the author of A World Below and co-author of ex her pt. Selections of her collaborative work in progress, Attendance, appear in Cultural Weekly.
Mark Valley is an accomplished film and TV actor, and a comic writer. A West Point graduate, he is an advocate for Veterans causes, mental health, and urban cycling.

Ibram X. Kendi & Brenda Stevenson at Hammer Museum
Despite the myths of a post-racial world, racism is alive and well. In his “engrossing and relentless intellectual history of prejudice in America” (Washington Post), the historian and National Book award winner Ibram X. Kendi traces the arc of anti-black racist ideas from 15th-century Portugal to the founding of the United States, arguing that we must confront the history of racist ideas in order to grapple with racism’s insidious hold on America.
UCLA Professor of History Brenda Stevenson joins Kendi in conversation. A book signing will follow the conversation.
