Gretel Ehrlich at ALOUD

Greenland’s ice sheet is now shedding ice so fast (five times faster than in the 1990s) that scientists have labeled its seasonal sea ice “a rotten ice regime.” For 20 years Gretel Ehrlich has traveled with Inuit hunters in Greenland, listening to their narratives and observing changes in their traditional hunting practices. Michelle Betting is a fourth generation Angeleno, where she grew up near the ocean. She studied theatre, wrote poems, danced, played music as an undergraduate at U.C. Berkeley. Michelle’s poems have been published or are forthcoming in American Poetry Review, Prairie Schooner, The Paris-American, Narrative, River Styx, The L.A. Weekly, Crab Orchard Review, among many others. Her first collection, Good Friday Kiss (2008, C&R Press) was chosen by Thomas Lux as the winner of the DeNovo First Book Award.

Sara Saedi (Never Ever) was born in Tehran, Iran smack-dab in the middle of a war and an Islamic Revolution. As the story goes, she entered the world to the sounds of bombs exploding near the hospital. Though her memory of the day is a little fuzzy, the life and death stakes surrounding her birth helped prepare her for a writing career. She currently lives in Los Angeles, Juliana Romano (Summer in the Invisible City) was born in 1982 in New York, New York and grew up in Santa Monica, California. She received a B.A. from Wesleyan University in 2004 and an M.F.A. in Painting from U.C.L.A. in 2008. In 2009, Juliana began writing fiction in addition to painting. She currently lives in Los Angeles. Aditi Khorona (Mirror in the Sky) spent part of her childhood in India, Denmark and New England. She has a BA in International Relations from Brown University and an MA in Global Media and Communications from the Annenberg School for Communication. She has worked as a journalist at ABC News, CNN, and PBS, and most recently as a marketing executive consulting for various Hollywood studios including FOX, Paramount and SONY.
