Slam in the Stacks at Bethune Regional Brach, LAPL
Slam in the Stacks is expression through poetry performance, offered in a two-part combined writing workshop and performance workshop. Turn your passion into words, rhymes, and rhythms. Learn from Writ Large Press writers how to compose your work into a final piece.
It starts off with performances by: Peter J. Harris, Gia Scott-Heron, Rebecca Gonzales, Mike Sonksen, and Ashaki M. Jackson. It will be followed by Slam in the Stacks Writing Workshop on Wednesday the 20th and Slam in the Stacks Performance Workshop on Friday the 22nd. This will be followed by events at the Mark Twain Library in Vernon.

Steven Leigh Morris at Skylight
Steven Leigh Morris reads and discusses his new book Fowl Play. When the precarious world of print media ruffles the feathers of veteran Los Angeles theater writer Seth Jacobson, the curious critic hatches a flock of four chickens and negotiates a fragile pact with his neighbors to house them in the back yard of his condo. Meanwhile his Russian wife returns to her homeland, and a play appears to unfold as Seth’s life. Or is it a life unfolding as a play?
Steven Leigh Morris is the Executive Director of LA Stage Alliance and founding editor of digital arts venture Stage Raw. His theater features have appeared in numerous publications, and his play Beachwood Drive was produced in Los Angeles and off-Broadway.

Garth Greenwell at Otis College
Garth Greenwell’s first novel is What Belongs to You, and he is also the author of a novella, Mitko, which won the Miami University Press Novella Prize and was a finalist for the Edmund White Debut Fiction Award and a Lambda Award. His work has appeared in Paris Review and elsewhere, and he is a recent graduate of the Iowa Writers’ workshop.

Henri Cole was born in Fukuoka Japan and raised in Virginia. He has published nine collections of poetry and received many awards for his work, his most recent collection being Nothing to Declare. He teaches at Claremont McKenna College and lives in Boston.
Denise Weuve is a Pushcart Prize Nominee whose work has appeared in multiple journals and anthologies. She recently graduated with an MFA in Creative Writing-Poetry from Queens University of Charlotte. She is the founder of Wherewithal.

Writing Healing Poetry Event at Pages Bookstore
Pages welcomes three local authors, who have found healing from their significant losses through their writing:
Alexis Rhone Fancher is a poet, and poetry editor of Cultural Weekly. She is published in Rattle, The MacGuffin, Wide-Awake Poets of Los Angeles, and elsewhere, and has been nominated for seven Pushcart Prizes and four Best of the Net awards.
Chanel Brenner is the author of Vanilla Milk, a memoir told in poems. She was a finalist for the 2013 Rattle Poetry Prize, and in 2014 was nominated for a Best of the Net award and a Pushcart Prize.
Madeline Sharples is the author of Leaving the Hall Light On: A Mother’s Memoir of Living With Her Son’s Bipolar Disorder and Surviving His Suicide. She co-edited The Great American Poetry Show, Volumes 1, 2, 1nd 3, and is currently working on a historical novel.
