Determined: The Story of a Holocaust Survivor
Author Avraham Perlmutter discusses his autobiography, “Determined”. The book takes readers from his experience as a childhood holocaust survivor, through his efforts to establish the state of Israel, to his life in the United States. Avraham Perlmutter was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1927. He went on to pursue his education in the United States, earning a PhD in aeronautical engineering. He is an award-winning scientist.

Montana Branch Book Group: The Boys in the Boat
Daniel James Brown’s robust book tells the story of the University of Washington’s 1936 eight-oar crew and their epic quest for an Olympic gold medal, a team that transformed the sport and grabbed the attention of millions of Americans. Daniel James Brown attended the University of California at Berkeley, and UCLA. He writes narrative nonfiction books and lives in the country outside of Seattle.

Reading with Poets Gerald Locklin, Heather Woodbury and Alexis Rhone Fancher
Long Brach poet Gerald Locklin has published over one hundred volumes of poetry, fiction and literary essays including Charles Bukowski: A Sure Bet and Go West, Young Toad. He is a professor Emeritus at Long Beach State. Heather Woodbury’s works echo 19th century serial fiction while throwing down a live-wire storyteller’s challenge to the remote-controlled seductions of contemporary cable TV. A native of Northern California, she moved to NYC at the age of seventeen and became involved in the East Village performance art scene. Alexis Rhone Fancher’s work can be found in Rattle, The MacGuffin, Ragazine, Menacing Hedge, 13 Myna Birds, KYSO Flash, Quaint Magazine, among other publications. She is the author of How I Lost My Virginity To Michael Cohen and Other Heart Stab Poems. She and her husband, Fancher, live and collaborate in a loft/studio space in downtown Los Angeles.

Angel City Review: the Release Party
After many hours of work, they have finally finished issue one of Angel City Review. In order to share the experience with everyone they are having a little party to celebrate. They will have a reading, refreshments, and a jazz quintet for your enjoyment. Featuring: F Douglas Brown, Keith Niles, A.R. Castellanos, Teresa Córdova, Thea Manalang. Closing the night will be the Alex Santos Quintet playing a set of Jazz. Angel City Review is a literary journal that is committed to bringing the cutting edge in fiction and poetry to a modern audience. They aim to present a diverse range of both writers and genres that run the gamut from experimental narratives to grittier fiction with a literary air. Every issue will feature a couple of more established writers; however our main goal is to provide an outlet for new and emerging authors with an emphasis on writers based in Los Angeles. The journal’s format is a twice yearly Ebook that is available for free.

Matt Coyle & David Putnam discuss and sign Night Tremors and The Disposables
In Night Tremors, Private Investigator Rick Cahill, haunted by a past he cannot flee, has felt the pain from being wrongly accused of a crime. In The Disposables, Bruno Johnson, a tough street cop, member of the elite violent crime task force, feared by the bad guys, admired by the good, finds his life derailed when a personal tragedy forces him to break the law. Now he’s an ex-con and his life on parole is not going well. He is hassled by the police at every opportunity and to make matters even more difficult, his former partner, Robby Wicks, now a high-ranking detective, bullies him into helping solve a high profile crime – unofficially, of course. Matt Coyle grew up in the tract home section of La Jolla, California, battling my Irish/Portuguese brother and sisters for respect and the best spot on the couch in front of the TV. He smuggled a degree in English out of the University of California, Santa Barbara. David Putnam worked in law enforcement primarily in California on teams for Patrol, Investigations, SWAT, Narcotics (street level and majors), Violent Crimes, Criminal Intelligence, Internal Affairs and the Detective Bureau. He’s now retired from law enforcement and spends his time growing organic California avocados and writing, with his wife Mary and their two dogs.

Poetry at the Santa Catalina Library
Saturday Afternoon Poetry hosts readings from Steven Dhar, Beverly Lafontaine and Nancy Lynee Woo, and open reading. A native Angeleno, Steven Dhar is Winner of both of the Los Angeles Poet Society’s 2015 National Women’s Month Poetry Contests, the 2015 Emerging Urban Poets’ SGV Poetry Festival Broadside Contest, and the 2015 San Gabriel Valley Poetry Quarterly Chapbook Contest, and published in various anthologies. Beverly Lafontaine is a Los Angeles-born poet and playwright. Her writing and poetry has been published in Blue Satellite, Spillway, the Anthology of the Valley Contemporary Poets, and So Luminous the Wildflowers: An Anthology of California Poets, Essence Magazine, Soul Magazine and Caesura: the Journal for the San Jose Center for Poetry and Literature. Before the poetry fire was fully lit, Nancy Woo earned a degree in sociology from UC Santa Cruz, then spent the lost years after college flitting around as a Jane of a million trades, doing freelance writing, editing, tutoring, blogging, reporting, marketing and stuff, which she still does.
